Q: I feel as if I am too old to start training in the martial arts. Don't you have to be young and strong to begin training?
A: You can start training at any age. Everyone works at their own level. This is true no matter what level you attain. Safety is our number one concern and if an exercise or activity hurts or feels uncomfortable, you are not required to do it.
Q: How fit do I need to to be to start Training?
A: There is no pressure to be fit, as you work at your own pace or as hard or easy as you want. We start the class with a good warm up and stretch so you will be ready for the training that follows. The program will provide you with the skills necessary such as improved flexibility, coordination, balance, muscle strength and muscle tone, not to mention fat loss. You will notice an improvement with each class.
I often hear concerns such as "I have no coordination, I am not flexible enough, I am not fit enough", but remember, you train to get fit. You don't need to get fit to train.
Q: What Should I Wear?
A: Initially, anything loose and comfortable - track suit and a white T-shirt is ideal. If you have any jewelry (rings, watches, necklaces etc.) please remove them before training, or, better still, leave them at home.
Q: Why Train in the Martial Arts?
A: Most people take up Martial Arts for self defense. Even people who think they can defend themselves usually cannot! The majority of law abiding citizens would not be able to deal with a potentially violent situation, so what chance do they have against the mugger, rapist or hooligan? Some of the benefits that can be derived from the regular practice of martial arts, by people of all ages, regardless of sex are...
[1] The promotion of physical fitness.
[2] Deeper mental awareness and self control.
[3] A practical method of self defense.
[4] Respect, and an understanding of yourself and others.
[5] A strong social aspect where many friendships are made.
Q: Is Martial Arts For Women?
A: Without exception - YES! Most women today are aware of the need to look after themselves. Martial Arts helps make you more aware of yourself. Martial Arts Training is high on aerobic fitness so you can achieve good body tone as well as learning to defend yourself. It is also a confidense bulider knowing you can protect yourself.
Q: How Long To Be Any Good?
A: It is difficult to put a time factor on how long it takes to become any good as everyone has a different potential to learn. We have found from past experience that after six months or so training most students are well on the way to achieving a good, sound knowledge of self defense, though continued repetition and practice develops muscle memory and the ability to refine techniques as well as lay the foundation to further improve by learning new techniques or variations of techneques already learned.
